




Dennis Francis of Trinidad and Tobago took the Oath of Office as President of the 78th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. Francis was elected president of the UN in June marking the first time that a nominee from this country has been elected UNGA President.
During his one year Presidency, the new President will preside over high-level meetings, shape the priorities of the General Assembly, and will play a crucial role in facilitating negotiations among Member States.
In his opening statement, he expressed his appreciation to the Government of Trinidad and Tobago for entrusting him with the privilege of representing the country at the UN and stated that his Presidency will reflect the values of tolerance, inclusion, cooperation and unwavering respect for human dignity that Trinidad and Tobago has proudly upheld and defended over 61 years of membership in the United Nations.
