
By exercising the powers granted under Subsection (e) of Section 6 of the Forestry Law of 2018, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation, the Republic of the Union of Myanmar has designated an area of 40,511 acres within Homalin Township, Homalin District, Sagaing Region as "Nanyok Protected Public Forest" as per Notification No 99/2023 released as of 30 August 2023.
The Ministry is establishing the protection forest to preserve the water resources and watershed areas such as rivers, creeks and lakes, and ensure the stability of the ecological system. By establishing the protection forest, the valuable tree species including teaks and local species growing in the area can be preserved. It is protecting endangered plant species and wild animals and increasing their habitats. The catchment area of the Nanyok Creek, which flows into the Uru River, will also be preserved and forest resources will be properly managed.
