Metta A Khar Taw Day: Wa Khaung full moon day ceremonies held

Buddhists regard the full moon day of WaKhaung as an auspicious day of Metta (loving-kindness) (MettaAKhar Taw Day). Being WaKhaung full moon day, MettaAKhar Taw Day ceremonies were held at the Shwedagon Pagoda and Thiri Mingalar Kaba Aye Pagoda in Yangon on Thursday.

Organized by Shwedagon Pagoda Treasury Board of Trustees, the events such as offering dawn meal to the pagoda and the successful ceremony of non-stop Paritta recitation were held at the designated places of the pagoda platform. The Yangon Region Chief Minister and party, Pagoda Board of Trustees and religious Wut Association offered Hsoon, flowers, water, lights and fruits to the pagoda, recited religious verses and shared the merits gained.

They also walked around the pagoda by conveying flower stupas and offered them at the Buddha images at the Prayer halls of the pagoda including Padamyar Myet Shin Buddha Image at the upper terrace of the pagoda.

It was followed by taking sabbath, offering day meal and libation ceremonies and memembers of the Pagoda Board of Trustees and well-wishers donated offertories to Ovadasariya Sayadaws. After that, merits sharing ceremony was held and day meal was also offered to the Ovadasariya Sayadaw.

Likewise, organized by the Pagoda Board of Trustees, the full moon day of WaKhaung or Metta A Khar Taw Day was held at the ThiriMingalarKaba Aye Pagoda.The religious Wut Association recited Metta Sutta and shared merits gained. The Pagoda Board of Trustees and the Religious Association also released birds for free.
