Meeting on Tourism promotion: Plans for more arrivals of Chinese visitors to Myanmar

ASEAN and regional countries and the major tourism market countries are promoting more arrivals of foreign tourists. China added Myanmar to the list of countries where tourists can travel in groups to foreign countries.

Union Minister for Hotels and Tourism Dr. Thet Thet Khine met officials of Myanmar-China Friendship Association (Central), Myanmar-Chinese Cooperation and Communication Center, Myanmar-China Business Association, the Chamber of Commerce of Dehong Prefecture, China, Myanmar-China Tourism Promotion Working Group formed by Myanmar Tourism Federation and travel companies which are implementing Chinese tourism market at the Ministry on Monday to prepare destination managements for the smooth visit of Chinese visitors to the destinations in Myanmar.

At the meeting, the Union Minister said that according to the statistic of the World Tourism Federation, China has become the world’s largest outbound market in 2019 and 1.5 million Chinese visitors arrived in Myanmar.

The travel companies are urged to make more efforts for arrivals of more Chinese visitors and to seek markets and the Ministry will provide necessary assistance.

For the convenience of Chinese visitors to the destinations in Myanmar, it is necessary to discuss and prepare including language, accommodation and transportation as well as the use of currency.

Efforts will be made more arrival of tourists from countries which have the potentials for tourism markets such as Russia, India and China in addition to ASEAN and regional countries.

Later, Deputy Minister U Phyo Zaw Soe reported on tourism promotion, travel expos and Myanmar-China Tourism G2G and B2B cooperation. Officials also reported on Myanmar-China tourism promotion plans, progress of works, experiences and further cooperation.
