Tea Leaf Plantation:Earned 2.5 million USD for exporting in 2021

Myanmar is one of the focal lands where tea leaf can originally grow.

Tea leaf is cultivated and produced with traditional techniques and mostly planted in Shan State as well as in Mandalay and Sagaing Regions.

Most of the developing countries grow tea leaf and about 60% of tea leaf production of the world comes from the growers who cultivate in small scale land holder farmers.

Planting of tea leaf plays the vital role for the development of rural areas, poverty alleviation and food security. Starting from 1991-1992, Extensions of Tea Leaf Cultivation and Production have been implemented as 5 year- short-term Nation Project.

In 2020-2021, tea leaf cultivation has reached to 239,000 acres and it was extended to 240,000 acres in 2021-2022. Before the project, about 230 visses of tea leaf could be produced per acre in average and about 275 visses after the project.

According to the lists of 2020-2021, total of 69 million vises of tea leaf were produced and earned 2.5 million USD for exporting to abroad.

Likewise, plans are underway to cultivate tea leaf by setting cultivation zones to export to the abroad.

It’s reported that the workshop on tea leaf growing and future prospects was also held to know strong and weak points of cultivation process, implementing chances and challenges and drafting road map to improve value of tea leaf.
