



The Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr. Soe Win received a delegation led by Mr. Martin Griffiths, Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator- the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) at the meeting hall of the Ministry in Nay Pyi Taw in the morning on Tuesday.
At the meeting, the Union Minister discussed the matters on holding emergency meeting of National Natural Disaster Management Committee led by the SAC Vice Chairman Deputy Prime Minister prior to the landfall of Cyclone Mocha, opening of Disaster Management Center- DMC as of 8th May, 2023, thanks to the preparedness of the government, the losses of life and properties can be mitigated, providing relief items and agricultural inputs, In Country Liaison Team of AHA Centre’s providing assistance by opening office in Nay Pyi Taw, ground inspection of ASEAN-ERAT) in Rakhine State, extending helping hands of friend countries and the status of cooperation between the ministry and UNOCHA.
Next, Mr. Martin Griffiths discussed the matters on effort for providing relief items for the storm-hit Rakhine State, the extension of LoA between the Ministry of UNOCHA, the visa issues of the employees of UNOCHA and the challenges facing in conducting humanitarian works by most of the INGOs which have expired term of MoU with the relevant ministries.
Also present at the meeting were the UN Resident Humanitarian Coordinator Mr. Ramanathan Balakrishnan, Head of the OCHA office in Myanmar Mr. Sajjad Mohammad Sajid, deputy minister U Soe Kyi, permanent secretary and the director generals of the departments.
