Flooding in Kachin and Mon states: Drinking water provided daily to flood-affected people

Due to heavy rains, water level of the Nam Yin and Nam Kaung creeks in Moegaung Township of Kachin Statehas risen, flooding the low land areas near the creeks. On the 9th of August, flood occurred at the eastern and middle parts of the township and in Nam Yin, Oh Tan and KyaungTaw wards.The Department of Meteorology and Hydrology is monitoring the water level of the creeks and related rescue teams are making preparations.

On Thursday afternoon, according to the measurement by the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology, water level of the Nam Yin creek was 635 cm and that of the Nam Kaung creek was 604 cm- hazardous mark of those two creeks is 600 cm.

In Mon State, flooding occurred due to persistent heavy rainfallsince the end of July and the water level of Belin River has risen. A local social organization and well-wishers have been providing drinking water daily to the flood-affected people in villages and wards in Thaton Township.
