Mekong-Lancang Cooperation: MSMEs Upskilling & Reskilling Digital Capacity Dev’t

Ministry of Industry hosted the Mekong-Lancang MSMEs Upskilling and Reskilling Digital Capacity Development Forum on Thursday in Nay Pyi Taw.

At the forum, in his address, Deputy Minister for Industry U Yin Maung Nyunt in his capacity as the Secretary of MSMEs Development Work Committee said that in developing countries, MSMEs can create employment for two-thirds of the country's adult population.

Digital technologies offer huge opportunities for MSMEs entrepreneurs to expand their businesses. Therefore, it is necessary for MSME entrepreneurs to upgrade their skills in order to use digital tools and technologies effectively.

The project proposal was drafted and submitted with the aim of ensuring that MSMEs are not left behind in digital transformation.Digital technologies are constantly changing, so MSMEs entrepreneurs must be motivated to keep up, the Deputy Minister added. Also, Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in Myanmar Mr. Ouyang Daobing said that the Digital Economy sector plays a particularly important role for free access.

The government of Myanmar should also provide awareness on the development of digital usage of agriculture-based MSMEs, the Counsellor added.

This 2-day forum is designed to focus on issues including E-Business Models and Concepts, Changing Digital Economy Practices of MSMEs, Digital Economy Strategy and Management, Readiness to go to Digital Economy and challenges.
