




A ceremony to confer graduation certificate and insignia to local and abroad trainees who passed relevant (Buddha/Dhamma) courses of the International Theravada Buddhist Missionary University (ITBMU) for 2022-2023 academic year was held at the university in Yangon on Monday.
At the event, on behalf of Joint Secretary of the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee Thanlyin Min Kyaung Sayadaw, the pro-rector (Teaching) Sayadaw of the International Theravada Buddhist Missionary University Dr Buddhanta Nawdhi Nyanna read out Tharaniya Gahta of Thanlyin Min Kyaung Sayadaw.
After that, Union Minister for Religious Affairs and Culture U Ko Ko said the university is conducting the subjects on Viniya, Sutta, Abhidhamma and Pali and also practically teaching the Buddha Dhamma which is Samta and Vipassana.
In the ceremony, the respective graduation certificates would be conferred to 5 Buddha Dhamma Ph.D, 4 M.A and 37 B.A degree holders, totaling 46 graduated ones for 2022-2023 academic year. Later, the Rector Sayadaw presented graduation certificates and insignia to 46 graduate trainees from local and abroad who passed in the respective courses.
The Union Minister then presented a gold medal conferred by the University as the outstanding award to a Myanmar monk Buddhanta Pyinnya Wara. The rector sayadaw then signed the graduation record book and recited Ovada Gatha.
Theravada Buddhist Missionary University was established on 9th December 1998 and monks, nuns and lay persons from local and abroad are attending the Buddha/Dhamma courses.
The University has turned out a total of 2,395 degree holders including 45 Ph.D, 233 M.A and 841 B.A degree holders from local and abroad to date and in 2023-2024 academic year, 311 trainees from local and abroad are attending the courses.
