Martial Art :4-Day Regions and States Vovinam Competition continues

Over 200 Vovinam athletes are going to participate in the 2023 Regions and States Vovinam Competition. 

The 4-Day 2023 Regions and States Vovinam Competition is set to be held from 17th to 20th of July at Wunna Theikdi Stadium (A) in Nay Pyi Taw. The competition is aiming to strengthen friendship among the athletes who have come to participate in the competition from regions and states, to turn out new generation Vovinam athletes and to improve Vovinam sport standard of the country through holing such events.

Secretary General, Myanmar Vovinam Association, Khin Lay Mon, said " Some of the playing techniques between Vovinam Sport and Myanmar Traditional Martial Art are pretty much similar. First, we select the athletes based on the basic Myanmar martial art playing techniques like the performances with swords, fist, kicking and so on. And then, let them to compete in Vietnam martial art competition."

She added that, it’s a great opportunity for Myanmar athletes to gain international experiences and to become successful. It’s also learnt that, Myanmar is being prepared to continuously participate in the international Vovinam events.  

Secretary General, Myanmar Vovinam Association, Khin Lay Mon, said " At present, we have School Games of SEA. We are also conducting camp training for this. In November, World Vovinam Championship is set to be held in Vietnam. We are also going to participate in there. Therefore in this year, 20 selected athletes each in the Institutes of Sports and Physical Education Yangon and Mandalay are being trained for Vovinam also. We also making efforts into spreading awareness on Vovinam techniques in the Basic Education Schools for School Games. "

Vovinam sport is the Vietnamese Martial Art and it has entered Myanmar in 2013. To date, Myanmar selected Vovinam players have participated in 10 international competitions and secured 162 medals in total including 39 gold, 32 silver and 91 bronze respectively.
