Garment Sector: MOL Deputy Minister inspected factories operation

Deputy Minister for Labor U Win Shein together with Minister of Ethnic Affairs, Yangon Region Government and officials from Social Security Board (SSC) inspected the establishment of Worker’s Coordination Committee (WCC), Occupational Safety and Health Committee (OSH), and operation process of Myanmar Guotai Huasheng Glory Fashion Co.,Ltd and Best Choice Garment Co.,Ltd on 14th July.

Nilar Lwin, Manager, Myanmar Guotai Huasheng Glory Fashion Co.,Ltd said " The factory is currently operated with 1,100 employees. The factory was started operated with 90 employees in May 2022. Our factory is mainly export and import to Poland and Russia. There is pressure on our employees and no production limit.  The Deputy Minister gave necessary guidance for assessment and we will carry out as soon as possible. Also the factory have been formed WCC and OSH designated by the Government."

The garment industry is the major source of job opportunities and emphasizes the producing skilled workers.

Ms. Sun Yumei, Factory Manager, Best Choice Garment Co.,Lt said " The factory has operating with 1,000 employees and has been produced linens, raincoats and clothes for Japan and France. Our factory usually produces around 6,500 garments per container box and exports to France, UK, Poland, Denmark and Norway. And the factory is a member of Social Security Boards SSC."

Garment industries in Myanmar are operating by local entrepreneurs, China, South Korea, Japan, Thailand and mainly exports to China, Thailand, Singapore as well as European countries. Myanmar generated an income of 1,551 billion of US dollars from the garments exports sector in 2022-2023 financial years.
