A volcano erupted near Iceland’s capital Reykjavik on July 10, marking the third eruption in the area in two years.

The eruption occurred in a small depression north of Litli Hrútur, with smoke and lava visible, the country’s Meteorological Office said on Monday. It followed a series of small earthquakes in the area, indicating the movement of magma and the imminent eruption.

Previous eruptions in the region occurred in 2021 and 2022. While these eruptions have not posed significant danger or affected air traffic, they have attracted many visitors.
