For many decades, most beauty pageants, including Miss Universe, have always been restricted to single women. This year, however, will be the first time in which married women and mothers will be allowed to compete for the Miss Universe crown. Praveenar Singh Thakral, who was previously the 1st runner-up in Miss Universe Thailand 2020 and has decided to compete again this year…. as a married woman.

Praveenar Singh Thakral said “It doesn’t matter if I’m married, divorced or with a child. I can show my talent regardless of those relationships or marital status.” “I think that is such a wonderful thing and it’s a step of inclusivity that they want to show that equality for women is real and it keeps happening every day and we are part of the society, and as individuals, we should make this society more inclusive for all women”.

As Praveenar is also advocating for women’s rights, she hopes to see more policies to promote an inclusive environment for all genders, as well as policies to protect women in the workplace.
