The edible frog breeding business is being operated at Kamarmat model village in Kayan township of Yangon region on commercial scale as the edible frogs are now good demands in local and foreign markets.

The Department of Fisheries is now providing technical assistance to carry out hatching and inoculation processes.

Tint Lwin, Deputy Director, Department Fisheries (Yangon Region) said " We can use tarpaulins by sewing as the tank. We can feed the frogs like the fish feed. Breeding frogs does not need much caring. The daily routine is to change the waste water that the frog excretes once a day. In breeding, there is no need the deep water like fish breeding. Frogs can be bred in the water scarcity areas if the water is used thriftily."

A local frog breeder said that he breeds mostly the frog species from Thailand and currently, more than 10,000 frogs are bred. The frogs can be sold in the market after breeding 3 or 4 months.

Myo Myint, Frog and Fish Hatchery Camp, Kamarmat Model Village said " We can’t breed the frogs in only one size and breed them in small, medium and large sizes because they bite and have each other. We can breed over 1000 frogs in the 10 ftx15ft tank. It reaches the selling stage 45 days after breeding. We sell the frogs weighing about 10 or 15 ticals 3 or 4 months after breeding. The frogs in large size are more profit in the market."

The Department of Fisheries in Kayan Township said that they will provide technical assistance at homes in order to operate frog breeding business widely in the region.
