Preservation of ancient buildings: Permission needs to be applied for renovation

According to the Department of Archaeological and National Museum under the Ministry of Religious and Culture, it needs to apply permission for the renovation of ancient buildings in Myanmar from the department.

Anchor& Footage Official, Dept. of Archaeology & National Museum said "There are 11 cultural heritage sites in Mandalay region. The sites in Tagaung and Bagan are directly managed by respective directors.

Our department manages other remaining 9 sites. The historic buildings that have existed before 100 years ago are set as ancient cultural heritages. To renovate the historical ancient buildings, the donors need to apply permits from our department, first.

The historic buildings cannot be replaced if they are damaged with incorrect maintaining methods. We are giving permissions to the renovation works in accordance with the specified rules. If they renovate without permission, legal actions will be taken."

48 ancient cultural heritage zones are designated in Myanmar. Renovation of historic buildings without losing original styles can help to show the long history of the country and contribute the socio-economic development of local people.
