






A thousand of Myanmar star tortoises have been born at the Lawkananda Wildlife Sanctuary of Forest Department in Bagan Naung-U Township of Mandalay Region.
42 males and 40 females, totaling 82 tortoises have been bred starting 2021 in order not to vanish the rare species. When starting to breed, only a few numbers of turtles were hatched and now a thousand of tortoises have been born yearly.
In the previous year, 1,576 baby tortoises were born and more than 2,100 tortoises have been born until 20th June of this year. If compared to the previous year, it increased to 524 numbers than the year of 2022 until before the end of breeding season.
Moreover, the grown-up star tortoises are released to their native places at the Shwesettaw wildlife sanctuary in Magway Region and Mae Zar Taung in Natogyi Township of Sagaing Region for their natural habitat.
