Rehabilitation measures in Rakhine: VSG meets staffs, rescue teams, volunteer organizations

Chairman of National Disaster Management Committee Vice Chairman of the State Administration Council Deputy Prime Minister U Soe Win together with officials who are currently in Sittwe visited Mrauk U, Minpyar and Kyauk Phyu on 16th June and inspected rehabilitation tasks and met with district/township departmental officials, town elders, rescue teams and volunteer organizations at the General Administration office on separate occasions.

First, the district/township administrative committee chairmen, town elders and senior military officers who are assigned duties to supervise rehabilitation tasks reported on damages by cyclone and progress of rehabilitation tasks on which the Vice Senior General coordinated the needs.

Later, the Vice Senior General gave a speech, saying that although Mocha is a strong cyclone with a speed of 120 miles per hour, it was successfully overcome with the good preparation of the state and public participation.

With the states’ budget and cash contribution of international and local well-wishers, it has managed to live safely for all people under the shelter as the first priority.

For the 2nd priority, high schools were renovated for opening and the schools could be opened for the students safely within the set date.

As a third priority, hospitals/clinics were renovated in the health sector and now, health care is being provided in normal.

The Vice Senior General added that the Mrauk U is an ancient city that is priceless in terms of historical value and needs to be emphasized more in renovating without losing original styles. Similarly, it needs continue to carry out the city to be able to inscribe on the UNESCO world heritage list.

In doing so, Mrauk U will be attractive region for local and foreign visitors and will get good prospects for regional development. He also stressed on increasing productivity more than usual by the townships that were not severely affected to fulfill the needs of foodstuff, household goods and general materials and called for accelerating meat, fish, agriculture and livestock sectors which are main businesses of the region during the recovery period.

Unity and cooperation are very important in the rehabilitation task and significant progresses have been seen in the townships affected by the storm, including Sittwe within a month due to cooperation of relevant departments, volunteering organizations and locals.

He also discussed in detail to carry out post-recovery rehabilitation tasks with added momentum in cooperation with government, volunteer organizations and public and presented foodstuff for departments, rescue teams and volunteer organizations.

Later, the Vice Senior General and party visited monasteries in Mrauk U, Minpyar and Kyauk Phyu townships and paid homage to the sayadaws and monks and donated rice and offertories.

They then looked into renovation of buildings damaged by cyclone at the people’s hospitals in the said townships and encouraged sanghas and monks and locals who are being hospitalized.

Similarly, the Vice Senior General and pary also observed learning students at the Minpyar basic education high school and met faculty members and fulfilled the needs.

Moreover, the Vice Senior General and party inspected local battalions and police units in Mrauk U, Minpyar, Kanni, Sittaw and Kyauk Phyu and met military officers, other ranks and families and police force units and families and coordinated the needs and also presented foodstuff, seasonal crop seeds and cash assistance.
