Helsinki residents endure sweltering temperatures, with the Finnish capital hitting 27 degrees Celsius on June 15, as southern parts of the Nordic country face an unusually dry month with some areas experiencing less than half the normal rainfall.

Temperatures are expected to rise in coming day. The heatwave comes as data showed that average global temperatures at the start of June were the warmest the European Union's climate monitoring unit has ever recorded for the period.
