Rehabilitation Works: Construction Materials arrive in Sittwe

The construction materials that are going to be used for the reconstruction works in cyclone hit area of Rakhine State arrived in Sittwe Township.

This is the arrival of galvanized iron sheets and other construction materials carried by the ship from Yangon at Sittwe Deep Sea Port. The Union Minister for Border Affairs Lt-Gen Tun Tun Naung, Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr. Thet Thet Khine, Rakhine State Chief Minister U Htein Lin and responsible officials inspected the offloading of construction materials by the members of police force.

The Sky Net for people, Myanmar Licensed Contractors Association, Myanmar Licensed Contractors Public Co., Ltd, and partner organizations are jointly organizing the reconstruction works for the schools and hospitals in cyclone-hit areas of Rakhine State.

The construction materials are continuously being arrived since the end of May and more to come. Among the rehabilitation and reconstruction works, the roof installation for the University of Computer Studies (Sittwe) has been completed at 30%. Due to the cyclonic storm Mocha, the school buildings in the University compound were damaged including roofs and windows.

So, efforts are made for the University reopening on time. The temporary roof sheets were installed as the initial stage for the University to be able to reopen on 1st of June and now, the roof installation are going to be conducted as priority while the galvanized iron sheets and hollow iron bars have arrived as the first batch.

The priority tasks include roof installation for the main building of the university and after that, ceilings and electricity installation works to be continued plus the reconstruction of the teachers’ housings.

The Myanmar Licensed Contractors Public Co., Ltd is taking responsibility for the reconstruction of University of Computer Studies (Sittwe) in Rakhine State, it’s reported.
