Work coordination meeting: SAC Vice Chair addresses the meeting of NDMC

A work coordination meeting of the National Disaster Management Committee was held at the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement with the attendance of the Vice Chairman of the State Administration Council Deputy Prime Minister Vice Senior General Soe Win, Union Ministers, Union Auditor General, Permanent secretaries, Director Generals and departmental officials.

Speaking at the occasion, the Vice Senior General clarified the rehabilitation processes which are being carried out in Cyclone MOCHA hit areas in Rakhine State. He said, senior military officials are assigned to supervise rehabilitation tasks in respective townships and the members of the National Disaster Management Committee are also encouraged to manage to accelerate the rehabilitation processes.

The relief aids donated by the well-wishers and purchased with Natural Disaster Fund are also being transported to the cyclone hit areas by Tatmadaw aircrafts, helicopters and vessels. And plans are under way to provide the transportation cost and the cost of renovating the cyclone damaged governmental departments.

The SAC Vice Chairman also pointed out the opening of schools across the country on the first of June,reconstruction of communication and electricity infrastructures and instructed to renovate the schools and hospitals giving priority.

Then, the vice chairs of the national disaster management committee Lt-Gen Soe Htut and Dr. Thet Thet Khine clarified the tasks undertaken by the committee in the prior and ongoing periods of cyclone, status of transporting relief aids by the civil and military aircrafts and ships, efforts for reopening of schools and hospitals, cooperation with the ASEAN–ERAT and AHA Centre, status of receiving cash donations from home and abroad.

The Union Minister for Transport Admiral Tin Aung San explained the status of providing relief items and renovations of schools and other buildings. Next, the Union Ministers, Chief Ministers from Chin and Rakhine States, Magwe, Yangon and Ayeyawady Regions clarified the rescue and rehabilitation works in related sectors.

Then, the Chief of General Staff (Army, Navy, Air) General Maung Maung Aye explained the preparations for the rescue prior to the cyclone, participating in the process of providing aids and relief items.In responding to the clarifications and explanations, the SAC Vice Chairman Deputy Prime Minister coordinated requirements and gave a speech of conclusion.
