Commemorative Event: Taninthayi region holds World Environment Day

With the theme, “Solutions to Plastic Pollution” a ceremony to commemorate the World Environment Day was observed at the city hall in Dawei of Taninthayi Region on Monday.

At the event, the Taninthayi Region Chief Minister U Myat Ko said that Taninthayi region is narrow from north to south and the Taninthayi mountain range is located in the east and the Andaman sea is located in the west.

So, if the waste and trash are easily thrown without discipline, they can reach the Andaman Sea through streams, creeks and rivers and it can cause marine environment pollution.

The Region Chief Minister added that the Region Environment Management Project has been approved with the aim for the environmental conservation and sustainable development in the region.

In order to know the basic knowledge of environmental conservation to students, 500 set of teacher handbooks on basic environmental subject and 3000 copies could be handed over to the Region Education Department in order to teach jointly the subject of environmental conservation in basic education schools.

He called for all to cooperate in environment conservation tasks in line with the motto, “Solutions to Plastic Pollution”.

Later, the video message of the UN Secretary General on commemorating the event was shown.

Afterwards, the Region Chief Minister and officials presented prizes to the winners of the model village and factory award for excellent environmental management at the regional level, Clean & Green School Award for high and primary school level, the essay and painting award for the high and middle school levels and also presented teacher handbooks on environmental conservation and viewed around the commemorative booth on the World Environment Day.
