Two puma cubs received care at the La Ñupana Reserve in central Colombia after they were found in a rural area with their umbilical cords still attached. They are estimated to be two weeks old. Their mother was allegedly killed by hunters.
The Colombian police took them by helicopter to San Jose del Guaviare, where they were received by the Corporation for Sustainable Development of the North and Eastern Amazon (CDA) and then taken to the La Ñupana Reserve, a family project that works in the conservation and rehabilitation of wildlife.
They are in good health and monitored 24 hours a day. The puma is the second-largest cat in the Americas. The species are in danger of extinction. The deforestation of the forests in this region of the Colombian Amazon has also affected the survival of these species.
