





Due to the cyclone Mocha, many school buildings in Rakhine State have been damaged. For 2023-2024 academic year, plans are underway to open the schools phase by phase on the 1st of June and in the third week of June, Leader of the Information Team of the State Administration Council Maj-Gen Zaw Min Tun made explanation.
Leader, SAC Information Team, Maj-Gen Zaw Min Tun said "All the basic education schools across the country will be opened on the 1st of June.In Rakhine State, we plan to open the schools phase by phase onthe 1st of June and in the third week of June. There are 17 townships in Rakhine State. These townships have 487 basic education high schools, 1,171 middle schools and 1,535 primary schools, altogether 3,193. There were damages of school buildings due to the cyclone Mocha. Among them, 2,410 schools will be opened timely on the 1st of June. It is the 75% of all the schools in Rakhine State. The remaining schools will be opened during the third week of June. We have a huge amount of renovation works for the damaged schools due to the cyclone. We all are making strenuous efforts with the cooperation of Tatmadaw, Myanmar Police Force, volunteers, departmental staff, and the concerned officials. We are paying special attention to the education sector. In Sittwe, there are 11 high schools and 6 branch high schools, altogether 17. We are making renovation works there, and 60% of the works have completed as of today, the 26th of June."
The Maj-Gen added that efforts are also being made for timely distribution of school text books and convenient enrollment of students in cooperation with the concerned ministry.
