Asia Media Summit: MOI Union Minister attended 18th Asia Media Summit

Myanmar delegation led by the Union Minister for Information U Maung Maung Ohn attended the opening ceremony of 18th Asia Media Summit held at Grand Hyatt Hotel Ballroom in Denpasar city in Bali of Indonesia in the morning on 23nd May. 

At the opening ceremony, the Vice President of Indonesia H.E K.H Ma’ Ruf Amin , Director of Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development –AIBD, President Director of Televisi Republik Indonesia (TVRI), Executive Secretary and Assistant Secretary-General of The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) and AIBD Vice President Razal Giovanni Aportadera Jr. gave the speech of greeting.

At the Ministerial level discussion of the Summit, Union Minister U Maung Maung Ohn, Minister for Information of Cambodia, Minister for Information and Broadcasting of Bangladesh, Minister for Communications and Information of Samoa and Deputy Minister of the Prime Minister’s Office of the Republic of Fiji led the discussion on the topic of the (Role of Media in Economic Recovery).

The Union Minister discussed that the COVID-19 vaccination has been carrying out systematically by drawing the Vaccination Management Information System while the containment of disease and public awareness campaign in timely manner. The covid-19 relief fund was established and disbursed law interest loans to the small and medium scale enterprises affected by the pandemic to resume their industries as quickly as possible and the program of subsidy was informed to the public in timely manner.

A new Department of the Directorate of Media Development was formed recently to facilitate the private media which were on the verge of collapse due to the COVID-19 to take upturn. The COVID-19 is under control in Myanmar in some extent and the economic stimulus initial programs are being implemented.

Next, the Union Minister attended the ministerial meeting relating to the information sector of the countries in Asia-Pacific region and the working luncheon hosted by the information department of host Indonesia and AIBD.

The discussion was continued in the afternoon and the attendants of information related ministers, deputy ministers, heads of broadcasting stations in and outside of Asia-Pacific Region, representatives from government and private broadcasting institutions, media professionals, decision-makers and the responsible persons from AIBD cordially discussed the cooperation with cutting edge technologies in broadcasting sector.

18th Asia Media Summit was co-organized by Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development -AIBD and Televisi Republik Indonesia (TVRI) from 21st to 25th of May and attended about 350 representatives from 38 countries of in and outside of Asia-Pacific Region.
