Cleanup after ‘MOCHA’: Works underway in storm-hit areas of Rakhine State

As the extremely severe cyclonic storm ‘Mocha’ hit Rakhine State on May 14, many townships in the State faced losses and damages. Relevant officials and concerned departments have now been making collaborative efforts for rehabilitation since after the storm.

Township officials in Manaung Township inspected the roofs damaged in schools and met local residents, sharing the plans for reopening of the schools in time in the school open season. Also, in Minbya township of Mrauk-U district, Tatmadawmen and concerned departmental officials conducted cleaning activities in school campus and drainages at the No. 1 Basic Education High School.

It is also learnt that, in Kyaukphyu Township, removing damaged big tree branches on the roads and in department offices, school compounds and monasteries, repairing lamp-posts and electric power distribution works are being carried out by fire brigade members, Tatmadawmen, members of the Police Force, officials and local residents.
