




The Department of Fisheries under the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation opened the basic on-job skill training for fisherman (3/2023) at the Fishery Institute Technology (Gyogone) in Insein Township.
With the aims to long-term sustainability and conservation of fish species in Myanmar sea, the months of April, May and June are set as the fishing close seasons. The training aims for the fishing workers to know rules and regulations set by the Department of Fisheries, to gain knowledge on fishing system and to have experience on the basic skill training, according to the official of the Yangon Region Department of Fisheries.
Tint Lwin,Deputy Director,Department of Fisheries (Yangon),said"This course is the 3rd time. As this time is the fishing close seasons in Myanma sea, the fishermen are free. The course will train them to be more skillful in fishing in the sea and to teach rules and regulations of our department and precautionary measures."
The Principal of the Fishery Institute Technology (Gyogone) said that they will also teach the vessel monitoring system (VMS) to the trainees in order to control IUU fishing in the sea.
Win Ko Ko,Principal,Fishery Institute Technology (Gyogone),said "We conduct the training aiming for the fishermen to have worksite safety while fishing in the sea and to know the laws, rules and regulations on fishing for fishermen. We are conducting vessel monitoring system (VMS) in order to control illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing. The VMS system is taught in the course and we’d like to know them about this."
A total of 20 fishing workers trainees from respective fishing ports attended the course and the course completion certificates were also presented to them.
