Inspection Tour: Rehabilitation for storm affected areas

Union Minister for Health Dr. Thet Khaing Win and Union Minister for Construction U Myo Thant arrived at Sittwe People’s Hospital on 17th May. They inspected the reconstruction of the buildings damaged by the Cyclone “MOCHA”. And also, the hospital's water supply conditions were inspected with the support of the Ministry of Cooperatives and Rural Development.

The Union Minister also inspected the storage of medicines and medical supplies,  arrangements for convenience of the patients to receive medical treatment and clearing of trees and garbage by the fire brigade members and hospital staff. Sittwe People’s Hospital has made preparations since before the cyclone with the guidance of the National Disaster Management Committee.

So, the Hospital can operate 24 hours medical treatment services including surgical treatments during and after the cyclone. As a preventive measure to prevent the occurrence of diarrhea, the Ministry of Health had carried out chlorination of drinking water wells and lake in the townships, wards and villages in Sittwe.In addition, coordination has been made with the Ministry of Construction to renovate the damaged hospital buildings in Rathetaung Township.

In order to further strengthen the health care activities, a medical team from the Army Medical Corps has already left for Rathetaung Township with medicine and medical supplies. Moreover, drinking water, medicines and medical supplies and chlorine powder have been delivered to Kyauk Padu , Myoyu and Inndin villages in Maungdaw township. Health workers are providing medical treatment in Thetkaepyin Village of Sittwe Township by opening clinics. Plans are underway for speedily renovation of the damaged Station Hospital.
