

At the invitation of Chairman of the Constitutional Court of the Russian Federation Mr. Valery D Zorkin, the delegation led by Chair of the Constitutional Tribunal of the Union U Tha Htay attended the Russian Federation International Conference.
It’s held in commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the Constitutional Court under the topic of “Constitution and Constitutional Supervision: Developing the Doctrine and Advancing Case Law” along with the 11th St Petersburg International Legal Forum from 11 to 13 May.
There, the Union Constitutional Tribunal Chair stressed that three constitutions were established in Myanmar - the 1947 Constitution, the 1974 Constitution, and the 2008 Constitution. Under Section 46 of the 2008 Constitution, the Constitutional Tribunal, the first of its kind in Myanmar’s judicial system, was established.
The Tribunal holds the supreme authority in matters pertaining to constitutional issues, and the decision of the Tribunal is final and conclusive, he added. This International Conference was attended by Constitutional Court Presidents, Chief Justices, legal experts and heads of international organizations from 16 countries. The 11th St Petersburg International Legal Forum witnessed the participation of Chief Justices from 54 countries, Ministers for Legal Affairs, Judges and legal experts. It discussed the topic of “Sovereignty in Law”.
