Meeting for Rural Development: Urea Fertilizer Distribution & Rural Development

Union Minister for Cooperative and Rural Development U Hla Moe attended the distribution of Urea fertilizer Steering Committee Meeting and Region-Based Rural Comprehensive Development Project Implementation Meeting at the Ministry in Nay Pyi Taw on 9th May.

At the meeting, Chairman of the Steering Committee Union Minister U Hla Moe said that the distribution of Urea fertilizer Steering Committee is prioritizing on distribution of good quality fertilizers and insecticides with fair price on time. With the collaboration of Myanmar Fertilizer, Seed and Pesticides Entrepreneurs Association, the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation and the Ministry of Commerce, verification was made to be able to import a total of 22.33 lakh tonnes of fertilizers including 11.22 lakh tonnes of Urea fertilizers and 11.11 lakh tonnes of Compound fertilizers until the end of April 2023.

The Committee has issued the reference prices to Nay Pyi Taw/regional governments once every two weeks starting 26th January 2023. Moreover, for the summer paddy and green gram projects that is implemented by the State Economic Promotion Fund, it has been carried out to support the inputs necessary for farmers with reasonable price. It is targeted to cultivate 22.48 million acres of 8 other crops including paddy in coming monsoon season for 2023-2024 fiscal year and the Department of Agriculture has estimated that about 2.87 million tonnes of fertilizers and 34,489 matrictonnes of pesticides will be needed.

Myanmar Fertilizer, Seed and Pesticides Entrepreneurs Association has reported to the Steering Committee to initially permit about 1.2 million tonnes of fertilizers and 38,850 tonnes of pesticides for this rainy season.

The Union Minister called the attendees to give suggestions to provide the necessary inputs for farmers and capitals on time. After that, representatives from the Myanmar Fertilizer, Seed and Pesticides Entrepreneurs Association, the Myanmar Rice Federation and the Ministry reported progress of works, future plans in the respective sectors. In response to the reports, the Union Minister gave necessary instructions and coordinated the needs.

It was followed by the Region-Based Rural Comprehensive Development Project Implementation Meeting and the Union Minister gave a speech on measures for rural development and poverty reduction, development of cooperative activities and cooperative system, rural basic infrastructure development, rural socio-economic life, small industry development, getting capitals and providing inputs, research development and technology dissemination, good governance and human resource development.

Later, the permanent secretary reported on plans to be implemented for region-based rural development project. And then, representatives from relevant Association, companies and departments discussed future plans. In response to the reports, the Union Minister gave necessary instructions and coordinated essentials.
