A new Port in Sittway: Sittway Kaladan International Port opened

Sittway Kaladan International Port of KaladanMulti-Modal Transit Transport Project that was implemented by the assistance of Indian Government was opened at the Sittway port in Rakhine State on Tuesday.

Member of the State Administration Council Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Transport and Communications Admiral Tin Aung San, Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways of India Mr. ShriSarbananda Sonowal, Rakhine State Chief Minister U Htein Lin, Indian Ambassador to Myanmar Mr. Vinay Kumar, officials and invited guests attended the event.

At the meeting hall of the Sittway Kaladan International Port, A to Z Exim Limited that is managing the port reported on progress of works to the Union Minister, the delegation of Indian government and officials and on the reports, the Ministers gave necessary instructions. It was followed by the opening ceremony where the Indian Ambassador to Myanmar extended greetings and the Rakhine State Chief Minister, the Indian Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways gave speeches respectively.

After that, the Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister said that the opening of Sittway Kalatan International Port will bring many benefits not only to India but also to Rakhine State and Chin State. It can promote bilateral and regional trade of the two countries as it can provide multi-modal transport by connecting the sea route, inland waterways and motor road.

With better transportation among Rakhine and Chin States and better flow of commodities, the living standard of the locals will improve and more job opportunities can be created. Later, the Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister and the Indian Minister unveiled the inscription of Sittway Kaladan International Port and they exchanged commemorative gifts.

On arrival at the Sittway Kaladan International Port where the ITT Lion ship is berthed, the Union Minister, the Indian Minister, the Rakhine State Chief Minister and officials formally opened the port and viewed around it. In the afternoon of that day, the Union Minister attend the meeting with the delegation led by Indian Minister and entrepreneurs from the Rakhine State Chamber of Commerece and Industry at the Royal Sittwe Resort Hotel.

At the meeting, they discussed the situations on promoting trade due to opening Sittway port, economic opportunites in Rakhine State and progress of job employments and smooth transportation between Rakhine and Chin States. Moreover, Union Minister Admiral Tin Aung San met Rakhine State cabinet member and the state level departments at the State Government Office meeting hall on Monday and also attended a clarification on the possibility of storm in the Bay of Bengal.

At the meeting, the Union Minister called for taking care of preparedness measures according to sector-wise and to cooperate among working committees. The Union Minister and party then inspected dredging silts at the Set Yoe Kya creek for better waterway as well as digging tube wells in the Sittway agricultural farm and Sittway General hospital.
