World Red Cross Day: 2023 World Red Cross Day celebrated in Nay Pyi Taw

The 2023 World Red Cross Day was celebrated in Wunna Theiddhi Stadium Building (B), Nay Pyi Taw in the morning on 8th of May with the attendance of Union Minister for Health Professor Dr. Thet Khaing Win, Chairman of Myanmar War Veterans Organization Lt. Gen. Sein Win, Deputy Ministers, senior military officers, President of Myanmar Red Cross Society Professor Dr. Myo Nyunt, Vice President of MRCS, representatives of International Red Cross and Red Crescent Federation.

In his honorary remark, the Union Minister Professor Dr. Thet Khaing Win said that World Red Cross Day is celebrated on 8 May each year honoring the anniversary of the birth of Henry Dunant. The celebration of World Red Cross Day commenced on May 8, 1948.

Not only in Myanmar but each country in the world, the philanthropic volunteers who are actively involving in the activities of Red Cross society are honored. The theme of this year’s World Red Cross Day is “Everything we do comes from the heart”.

The Union Minister also added the Myanmar Red Cross Society’s history involving in the philanthropic works, 7 principles of the MRCS, cooperation in the efforts for the public health etc.

Next, the president of Myanmar Red Cross Society Professor Dr. Myo Nyunt, residence representative of ICRC in Myanmar Ms. Elena Ajmone Sessera, residence representative of IFRC in Myanmar Ms. Nadia Christine Khoury gave honorary remarks commemorating World Red Cross Day and then a video clip was screened in the commemoration of World Red Cross Day.

Then, the members of Myanmar Fire Brigate, members of Nay Pyi Taw and Yangon Region Red Cross Societies demonstrated first aid and carrying patient.

Next, the Union Minister, Chairman of MWVO and deputy ministers awarded the prizes to the winners of essay contest and poem contest, joint-adjutant general Maj-Gen., member of Nay Pyi Taw Council and president of MRCS presented certificate of honor and honorary awards to the demonstrators.

Then, the vice president of MRCS presented certificate of honor to those who served for MRCS till the 65 years of age through Mandalay Region Red Cross Society commander U Kyaw Kyaw.

Afterward, the Union Minister and attendees posed for the documentary photo and viewed the exhibition booths displayed in commemoration of World Red Cross Day. The World Red Cross Day is held yearly around the globe on May 8 starting from 1948 and it’s reached to the 75th Year Diamond Jubilee, it’s learnt.
