Venezuelan migrants boarded a Caracas-bound flight on Sunday after having been stranded for weeks on the border between Chile and Peru, the Chilean president said. The flight, which arrived at dawn in the Chilean region of Arica, would make a stopover in Lima on its route to the Venezuelan capital, President Gabriel Boric said.

The Venezuelans boarded the flight "in complete normality, previously complying with the requirements established by the Venezuelan Consulate in Chile," in coordination with local authorities and "in compliance with Chilean legislation and regulations, from a human rights approach", said a statement from the Chilean Foreign Ministry. The flight is part of the "Return to the Homeland" plan of the government of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro.
