El Paso Mayor Oscar Leeser told that he will be declaring a state of emergency for the city as large arrivals of migrants are expected. Oscar Leeser, El Paso Mayor said “The state of emergency will be for the next seven days and then we'll take it to the city council.

That will do. It will be ratified and then moved on for a 30 day approval. And I will have the opportunity and the ability to continue to do a 30 day emergency sheltering or an emergency declaration for the city of El Paso.” Mayor Leeser highlighted the need for staff to set up temporary housing as the uptick of migrants continue through the U.S. southern border.

The U.S. government is increasingly turning to Mexico while preparing to end pandemic-era asylum restrictions, known as Title 42 authority, on May 11.
