Thousands struggle to leave Sudan amid fighting

Tens of thousands of foreign nationals are struggling to leave Sudan as intense fighting continues for more than a second week, despite a series of shaky truces. World powers have been evacuating people from Sudan in complex international operations prompted by an eruption of fighting.

Many nationalities have struggled to find ways out of the fray, including some from war-torn Syria, Yemen, and other African countries.Evacuations continued on Monday, with the United States announcing the arrival of a second convoy carrying American citizens from the capital to Port Sudan.The UK announced that another evacuation flight for its citizens would be taking off on Monday evening.

Sudan's army and its rival paramilitary said Sunday they will extend a humanitarian cease-fire a further 72 hours.
