Permanent Resident System: MoIP implementing to the PR system

Ministry of Immigration and Population drafted a permanent resident permit system for foreigners in Myanmar started on 19th September 2012. The application was accepted on January 2015. Among the applications, there were a total of 751 applicants and their families with four kinds of PR System mostly to apply for permission are the American Citizens.

Min Zaw (Director), Department of Foreign Affairs, said "Regarding with the permanent resident permit system for foreigners, the department implemented and accepted as of 2015. As our country does not recognize the dual citizenship system, according to the 1982 Myanmar Citizenship Law, this PR system is implemented by the Ministry of Immigration and Population. In implementing the PR System, there are four types of permits: professionals, businessmen who want to invest in Myanmar, ex-Myanmar citizens who have obtained other citizenships and will contribute to Myanmar, and foreigners who are related by blood to Myanmar citizens."

If the application form is accepted by the counselor, 500 USD should be paid to the Embassy of Myanmar for initial PR application.When the Implementation Central Committee issues an approval letter to the applicant, the applicant must pay a yearly fee of 1,000 USD for the foreign applicant, 500 USD for a former Myanmar national, and 300 USD each for son and daughter aged under 18 years. No fee is charged for sons and daughters below 7 years of age. If the PR credit card is lost, it can be re-applied for new one with the fine 300 USD, it is learnt.
