Meeting on Review & Analysis: MoSWRR Union Minister gave a remark

A meeting on reviewing the status of response regarding with the hitting tornado in the Union Territory Nay Pyi Taw on 21st April and the analysis on the possible occurrences of weather condition in the pre monsoon period was held at the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement with the attendance of Union Minister Dr. Thet Thet Khine, Deputy Minister U Soe Kyi, senior officials.

At the meeting, the Union Minister said that as the natural disaster management work committee, the ministries including the ministry of social welfare, relief and resettlement and the regions and states natural disaster management committees, the disaster responses were prompted as per the related sector and the rehabilitation works are being carried out collectively in line with the guidance of the head of state.

For giving effective responses to the emergency disaster occurrences, a good collaboration of all stakeholders is needed.By finding out lessons from responding encountered difficulties, I’s to distribute the necessary work process and forms for the reference in the time of occurrences natural disasters in other regions and states.It’s needed to compile the rapid assessment forms of basic requirements for the disaster-hit people and to have been distributed.

The civilsocieties organizations and volunteers who cooperated rapidly and effectivelyin the response of natural disaster are acknowledged and honored and urged toprepare to collaborate effectively in the future.In the afternoon, a delegation led by the UNFPA resident representative Mr. Ramanathan Balakrishnan paid courtesy call to the Union Minister Dr. Thet Thet Khine at the Ministry.

At the call, Mr. Ramanathan clarified the works to be cooperated with the ministries and the matter on the assistances to be provided for the women, elders and persons with disabilities in the regions and states. The Union Minister also discussed the status of developing Social Management Information System- SMIS with the technical assistance of Military Technological Department, social issues implemented with the collaboration of Social Welfare Department and Rehabilitation Department, the sexual harassments on women during the conflicts and the fatality of children in the armed conflicts, the matters of recommendation for INGOs by the ministry for the entry visa, permission for movements and withdrawal of money after signing MoU with the ministry to register at the Ministry of Home Affairs, preparations to accept the first batch of repatriation by Myanmar side in Rakhine and the willingness of the ministry to cooperate with the international organizations.
