50th anniv. of Chile's first LGBT demo commemorated

Dozens of people demonstrated Saturday in Santiago's Plaza de Armas to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the first LGBT demonstration in Chile. On 22nd April 1973, in the same place, two dozen of people participated in the historic march, that marked the beginning of "the fight for equal rights" for LGBTIQANB+ people in the country.

The main demands of that moment were to put an end to discrimination and social repression experienced by that community, in addition to the right to marry, something that became a reality almost half a century later.Chile approved equal marriage in December 2021.
