Thousands gather in Doha for Eid fireworks

Thousands gathered in Doha on Friday to watch a fireworks display which lit up the night sky in the Qatari capital to celebrate Eid al-Fitr. The holiday of Eid al-Fitr ushered in a day of prayers and joy for Muslims around the world on Friday.After the Ramadan month of fasting, Muslims celebrate Eid al-Fitr with feasts and family visits.

The start of the holiday is traditionally based on sightings of the new moon, which vary according to geographic location, while some countries rely on astronomical calculations rather than physical sightings to determine the start of Eid al-Fitr.A display will also take place in Doha on Saturday and Sunday at 9 pm local time.
