COVID-19 Prevention: MOH Union Minister discussed for accelerated efforts

A work coordination meeting on the plans to accelerate the preventive measures for COVID-19 infection was held at the Ministry of Health in Nay Pyi Taw on Friday.

Union Minister Dr Thet Khaing Win said there is a slight increase of COVID-19 infection in Myanmar during April. There is an outbreak of Omicron variant XBB.16 in the world nations including the neighbouring countries.

Although the new variant is 1.27 time faster in infection more than the previous variants, the symptoms were not more severe. Moreover, the rate of hospitalization and mortality is not higher than the previous ones.

But the rate of infection may be higher in the elder persons and those who are susceptible to the disease. It can also be cured with the current treatment method and the vaccines being provided in the country can prevent effectively.

He stressed the needs to accelerate the vaccination and booster dose, laboratory test and monitoring works. He also instructed to make preparation measures for quarantine centre and treatment centre in case of higher infection.

He urged all to follow the COVID-19 preventive measures issued by the Ministry of Health.
