3 miners dead, 4 trapped after Colombia explosion

An explosion at two interconnected coal mines killed at least three miners on Thursday in Colombia. Three bodies were found lifeless, whilst four miners were saved and work is underway to rescue four more who remain trapped.The accident occurred during the early hours in El Roble and El Manto 6 coal mines in Cucunubá, north of the capital Bogota.

Colombia's National Mining Agency said they had banned both mines from operating since December 2022 due to security concerns. Despite this, the mines were still operating. Mine accidents caused by explosions or cave-ins are common in Colombia, especially in coal and gold mines.
