Mexico City takes part in earthquake drill

A national earthquake drill was held across Mexico on Wednesday, simulating a magnitude 7.5 tremor. 13,000 loudspeakers blared out a siren noise during the practice run, which simulated an earthquake with an epicentre in the town of Tierra Blanca.

Nine states, including Mexico City's metropolitan area, took part in the drill. In total, 10,000 police officers were deployed for the simulation, as well as five helicopters. A second national drill will be held in September.
