New Types of Tasty Watermelon Now Available In Shanghai

The weather has turned hot, and the first batch of early-maturing local watermelons and melons have been launched in the market 10 days earlier than usual. New products such as "Meteor Melon" and black-skin watermelon brings out a feast to customers. Pudong, the most populous district in Shanghai has planted nearly 60% of Shanghai's watermelon, which is also home to new varieties in the melon industry.

This "Meteor Melon", selected by the Shanghai Academy of Agricultural Sciences, is a crispy yellow flesh melon. Because of its skin pattern, it has been popular among citizens since its debut. The earliest locally grown "Black Tianjin Yellow-Flesh Watermelon" is at least 20 days ahead of 8424 variety watermelon. This year, a total of 25,000 acres of spring watermelon and nearly 10,000 acres of sweet melons were planted in Shanghai.
