Thingyan Festival: Ministry of Home Affairs celebrates firstday

Ministry of Home Affairs celebrated the 1st day of theMyanmar traditional Thingyan water festival on Thursday at its office no. 38 in Nay Pyi Taw. Member of the State Administration Council Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Home Affairs Lt-Gen Soe Htut, deputy ministers and many other officials as well as their family members and Yein troupes participated in the celebration.

There, the Union Minister gave remarks and opened the Ministry’s Thingyan Festival together with the deputyministers.Thingyan is the Myanmar’s New Year Festival that usually occurs in middle of April. The dates of the festival are observed as public holidays throughout the country, and are part of the summer holidays at the end of the school year.

This year, the Myanmar traditional Thingyan water festival falls from the 13th to the 16th of April.Water-throwing or dousing one another from any shape or form of vessel or device that delivers water is the distinguishing feature of this festival.
