Preparations in Full Swing: Full-Dress Rehearsal for Mandalay Maha Thingyan

Mandalay Region Government is making effort to welcome Myanmar New Year with the performances of Yein troupes and donation of charity foods during Thingyan.

On Tuesday, full-dress rehearsal for the opening ceremony of Mandalay Maha Thingyan Pandal was held at the Mandalay Maha Thingyan Pandal on 26th street. 

Mayor, Kyaw San, Mandalay Region Government, said " We’re making preparations with full-dress rehearsal for the Thingyan Eve Day which will fall on 13th of April. 36 performers will be on the pandal and 900 will performin front of the pandal with Thingyan songs and dances. So, now we’re carrying out the rehearsal performance. After their performance, the decorative float of Myo Ma Troupe will perform with one of the most popular Thingyan songs“Thingyan Moe”."

Arrangements have been made to celebrate Thingyan Festival in Mandalay by creating 7 zones including the Walking Thingyan.

Member, Ponnataw Ritual Performance Troupe, Aung Soe, said " Performing the ritual by blowing Conch Shell plays an important role of Thingyan Festival. This tradition has been handed down from our ancestorssince long time ago. And I would like to say thanks for organizing this traditional occcation annually."

During the rehearsal, the Yein Troupes performed to the Thingyan pandal opening songs together with the accompanied ofModern Music Band from the Development Affairs Committee of Mandalay, Yin Kyae May Traditional Orchestra from the National University of Arts and Culture (Mandalay) and Myanmar Traditional Si Daw Gyi Team. Likewise, the Regional Government is arranging to donate charity foodsfor the revellers to become a convenient visit.
