Tripartite Meeting: Efforts to tackling cross-border smog pollution

A Tripartite Meeting on cross-border smog pollution among Myanmar, Thailand and Laos was held on Friday. Chairman of the State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha and Laotian Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone attended the meeting via Video Conferencing.

They discussed that the issue could be tackled through mutual trust and understanding. They talked about the sharing information, cooperative efforts, preventing the spread of wildfire, air pollution measurements, The smog pollution has been seen in the eastern border of Myanmar and its adjacent areas of norther Thailand and southern Laos starting 23rd March.

According to the forecast of ASEAN Specialized Meteorological Centre (ASMC), the dry weather condition may last till May and there might be more smog pollution and wildfire. They also exchanged views on reducing hilly agriculture system, and implementation of highland cultivation, systematic throwing of waste materials, the needs to use of technology and accelerating the tripartite efforts for tackling the air pollution issue.
