Fight against Drug Abuse: 26th Cartoon, Painting and Poster Competition

Under the instruction of the Ministry of Home Affairs, the 26th Cartoon, Painting and Poster Competition was held, marking the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking which falls on 26th of June. On Tuesday, the cartoon and painting competition participated by students was held at the Basic Education High School No. 2 (Latha) in Yangon.

Aung Myat Soe, Police Lieutenant Colonel, said " It’s more effectiveto share knowledge of drug abuse through cartoon, paintings and posters because this is the creation of art without any words. We can feel their efforts on this. By showcasing their creation on social media, the public will participate in eliminating drug abuse and illicit trafficking in cooperation with related departments."

This competition is held with the aim of sharing knowledge of the disadvantages of the drug with the students and the public and urging the public to participate in elimination of drug abuse and illicit trafficking with the related departments.

Moe Pwint Phyu, Contestant, said " I’d participate in the Cartoon competition and I really love creating cartoon characters.  Through my cartoon, I want to show the public that the youths must avoid drugs.  I would like to say Thanks to the responsible persons for holding this kind of competition because the youths can know disadvantages of drugs through our efforts."

Chit Eaint Han, Contestant, said " I’ve participated in this cartoon competition with the support of my teacher and trainer. I participate in competitions outside and have won prizes too. Holding the drug awareness talks at schools can help the youths know the dangers of drugs."

About 90 students participated in the cartoon competition and awarding ceremony will be held on the 26th of June. It’s learnt that plans are underway to hold ceremonies to mark the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking in Nay Pyi Taw and Yangon.
