Welcome ceremony for USS Makin Island in Busan

A welcome ceremony for a U.S. Navy's amphibious assault ship took place in the South Korean port city of Busan on Thursday.

USS Makin Island, which can take up to a total of 2,800 passengers and 20 F-35B stealth fighter jets, arrived at the base of South Korean Navy Fleet Command on Wednesday afternoon.

The ship will take part in a joint naval exercise with South Korea. The ship's commanding officer, said it was an opportunity to ensure "defensive readiness, military readiness to the partners and allies."
