Two people were killed Tuesday night when their house collapsed into the Rimac River in the Peruvian capital Lima.

The houses, built on the ridge of a Cliffside, had seen their bases degraded after weeks of heavy rain and an overflowing river, a byproduct of the Yaku Cyclone. The victims were a 35-year-old mother and her 18-year-old son, who were at their residence.Their bodies were found on Wednesday downstream the river.Authorities estimate that nearly 50 people have been killed, and more than 20,000 houses have been destroyed or rendered inhabitable by the rainy season.
