Swedish parliament to vote on NATO accession

Sweden’s parliament began debating the legal basis for the country’s accession to NATO on Wednesday.  Later in the day, 349 members of the Swedish parliament will vote on whether to authorize Sweden’s accession to NATO.

Both Finland and Sweden applied in May 2022, to become NATO members. NATO requires the unanimous approval of its 30 existing members to expand, and Turkiye and Hungary are the only countries that haven't yet ratified the Nordic duo’s bids.
