Peru president: emergency in Lima due to floodings

Peruvian President Dina Boluarte called armed forces and national police on alert following heavy rainfall since the pass of Yaku Cyclone last week.

The country’s National Meteorological Service had also declared a red alert in the metropolitan area of Lima, especially on the areas nearby the Rimac, Chillon and Lurin rivers.Five people have been killed in multiple incidents related to the floodings across Peru. Cyclone Yaku has brought in heavy rains in several coastal regions of northern Peru and southern Ecuador.
